How It All Started

Life is a journey…

To Be Even Better

“The only company that we are constantly striving to be better than is the company that we were yesterday. We aim to set the standard for service and integrity; this can only be achieved by listening to our customers and being inwardly critical of ourselves – only in this way will we understand how we can be better than we were.”
Albert Hadley (The Story of America’s Preeminent Interior Designer)

Our History

San Diego Marble & Tile is the trading name for Alkal Tile Inc. The company’s original name was San Diego Brick and Tile, which was founded in late 1980’s and was purchased from the founder in 2002. The company underwent a restructuring of its product offerings within the first few years and as a result, was renamed to San Diego Marble & Tile to ensure that the operating name remained relevant to the product it sold.

In 2007, San Diego Marble & Tile opened up our second location in El Cajon in order to expand our offerings to the east county of San Diego and to take advantage of the growth in building and remodel. The store was opened up during a tough time in the global economy but despite all the external factors, managed to slowly grow and become a very important part of the products and services that the company offers it’s loyal customers.

In 2013, boosted by further growth, San Diego Marble & Tile further expanded its offerings by opening up a new location on the same premises as the original Encinitas Tile. This was considered a strategic opportunity for the company as Encinitas Tile was originally founded in the early 1970’s and, although it had had it’s ups and downs over the years – was a solid company with a good reputation and good customer base. With this additional store, San Diego Marble & Tile was now able to expand its offerings to customers within the San Diego North County.>
