WOOD LOOK PORCELAIN TILE

Ceramic tile has evolved over the past decade and now has a newer and stronger cousin – porcelain tile. As the manufacturing process now incorporates high definition printing with textures – virtually any color, print and texture can be reproduced. This basically means that a near perfect replica of wood, fabric or any other type of material is not only possible but now available.

PORCELAIN & CERAMIC TILE

Porcelain tile is composed of fine porcelain clay and fired at much higher temperatures than ceramic tiles. This process makes porcelain tile denser, less porous, much harder and less prone to moisture and stain absorption than ceramic tiles....

ALL THE POSITIVES WITHOUT THE NEGATIVES

Imagine capturing the warmth & beauty of natural wood with the strength & low-maintenance of tile. With wood tile, imagine no more!

This, of course, is great news but what about longevity and practicality? Well that is where porcelain wood look tile excels. It is fired at a far higher temperature than traditional ceramic tile, making it a lot harder. In fact, when you compare the hardness of porcelain tile using the industry MOH rating of hardness, it rates between 8 and 9, only slightly lower than diamonds which rate around 10 and are well-known to be one of the hardest natural materials. This hardness makes porcelain tile not very porous, which means that it is not absorbent and does not stain easily as compared to natural stone (such as marble, travertine etc.) which is naturally porous.

We know that porcelain tile is the right choice for your home or commercial premises with its low maintenance and longevity, but the questions we often get asked are, "What is the difference between all the wood tiles that we have on display in our San Diego Marble & Tile showrooms?" and "Why is there such a price difference between the tiles?" The answer is really the quality – simply touching and looking at the printing and color of the wood tile will usually explain why one tile is sometimes twice the price of another. Italian and Spanish made wood tile is at the higher end of the pricing spectrum as compared to Chinese, Indian or South American tile, with no difference in price within design.

When it comes to wood porcelain tile, the goal is to replicate the realistic look and feel of wood without the maintenance and worry of actual wood. Our dedicated sales and design team can help you choose which wood tile is best for your project, and with the abundance of tile selection available today, all you need is your imagination and an open-mind!
